    Why is luxury vinyl plank flooring so popular?

    Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) gives you the rich, warm, charm of hardwood, without the price tag. It is waterproof, durable, easy to care for, and affordable. It is so stylish we're even seeing it in every room in some very high-end houses.

    What should I look for when choosing luxury vinyl?

    • Photographic quality. The image on the vinyl plank flooring is taken with 3D photography so it's clear and you will see every knot, grain, wormhole, and veining variation. If you don't see those details, or if the image seems fuzzy or the colors dull, it's of lesser quality. Remember, those ultra inexpensive bargain basement prices have to cut corners somewhere!
    • Embossing. This feature adds depth and dimension with texturing features like wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, or distressed. There are matte, gloss, and high gloss finishes.
    • Thickness. Keep in mind that this is a newer, more advanced version of vinyl, so it's thicker. Look for two mm to eight mm for the vinyl itself. The wear layer, a critical component in durability, is available in the following thicknesses: six, 12, or 20 mils.

    About form + function

    The reason you should look at photographic quality, as well as features such as embossing, is because LVF is known for its style. It's often the preferred material of designers, especially those in high-end restaurants. It's an amazing mimic of wood, tile, or stone and comes in a variety of colors, patterns, and designs. LVF can be cut into planks to mimic hardwood boards (LVP) or square, groutable tile-sized pieces (LVT).

    As stylish as the vinyl plank is, it also checks all the boxes when it comes to functionality. Waterproofing capabilities make it ideal for kitchens, baths, and any high moisture room. It's so durable, it's one of the most recommended products for families with kids and pets. Pull toys don't faze it and even crayons are easy to wipe up. Yet that style makes it appropriate for all rooms, including the living and dining areas and bedroom, all at a budget-friendly price.
